How to Painlessly Search in Windows 7 Windows

“There are several ways to perform a search. One way is to enter your search term into the search field, which is located at the top of any open window, or into the search field on the Start menu. When you enter a search term, the search starts automatically” ( Windows Search FAQ ).

Damn, does anyone know how to make it not start automatically? Because when it starts when you enter each letter, the system starts to slow down sharply, further input and, in general, any operations in this window are blocked. This is especially annoying if you find that the input was started in the wrong register, and you try to erase the input, and the operating system recklessly continues the meaningless search and ignores you.

As an option, disable the built-in search and use third-party utilities. Personally, I rarely use the search, so I turned it off to speed up the system boot. If I need to find something, I use Everything .

In any explorer window: alt -> service -> search tab

I advise you to check what is indexed for search. In general, it should work instantly and without delay. Needed: indexing options in the control panel. If all the disks are added there at all, then, I believe, this is the problem. Usually there is only the Users folder, IE history, Start menu and other little things.

Type what you are looking for somewhere, and then copy paste it into the search field.

And the problem is in the indexing service? Or slows down not only it?
For example, in my “my documents” folder, which is indexed by default, there are more than 50 thousand files and 30 thousand of them are various logs (470 mb). The search takes less than a second, I don’t notice any sticking. Screw WD3200-AAKS (7200rpm).
Perhaps you are indexing some very huge volumes of files? Then look towards specialized solutions like Google Desktop Search , diskMETA , Yandex Personal Search , Archivist or something else.

Didn't find what you were looking for?
