How to painlessly get away from Windows 7?

Hey Habr!

It's time to put Ubuntu 12.04 LTS as the main system, but I still suffer from the thought of the lack of programs for Linux, which I used on Windows.

What about text documents - will LibreOffice replace MS Office or do I need to install VirtualBox? As a student, I still have to work with documents at the university.

What about C / C ++ programming - Qt Creator will replace MS Visual Studio 2010? Laboratory and term papers have not been canceled yet.

I will be glad for your answers, I think there are a lot of people on Habré who have successfully migrated.
Thank you.

Will not replace. It is much less convenient, does not open MS Office documents well. If you don’t have a printer at home, you will get a huge headache when printing documents created in it in print centers (which always have MS Office). Huge problems with all sorts of frames for term papers / diplomas. In general, save your nerves.

If documents are needed only in printed form, then LibreOffice is suitable (for an electronic form without editing (for example, to attribute a print) you can export to pdf).

Why leave something, set up a dual boot for a start, slowly and switch.

I support dual boot.
I recently returned to Win 7 with Arch Linux myself. The main reason is that it infuriates KDE, GNOME, XFCE… and aero is just awesome. As for LibreOffice already answered, Qt Creator for c++ is better than MS Visual Studio 2010 in every way except debugging.
Wine is a very cool and powerful thing, but so far not everything can be done, and there are glitches. Windows 7 - nearby, in dual boot - I highly recommend it.

Depends on tasks. As a last resort, MSO works well through vine (at least MSO 2007).

I have been working on OS X for many years. I keep a VMWare container for Windows programs.

Many years with Linux. Strongly against the bundle of ubuntu + unity, it does not seem convenient to me.
Libra - normally opens documents for me. There are hemorrhages with tables, but if the reports are textual, then there are no problems at all.
C / C ++ - Qt Creator, Monodevelop, codeblock, text editor + console, eclipse, other IDEs (IDEA seems to be fine with C). There is no shortage of programs. I myself use monodevelop for the lab.
Three courses with tench, everything is fine so far.

And while I was studying, I didn’t switch - all sorts of CADs didn’t always run under Vine, and VMWare was very stupid.
Therefore, the transition was made later :) And without problems. But LibreOffice is really buggy.

It is more difficult to leave the seven than it used to be with XP, the seven is much better.
