I'm trying to stream with VLC, but unfortunately Firefox just caches the first 2 minutes of the video and then repeats it.

In general, I solved the issue using nginx-rtmp-module+hls

Well, http-stream in vlc, and then it <video src="http://example.com/video.mp4"></video>
should work.
Although, vlc is not the best solution. It doesn't hold a load very well.
