How to organize different lifetime for sessions?

Let's say I want to be able to log in on the site and the session lifetime will be 2 days
And I want to add a "remember me" checkbox, when activated, the session will live for a week
Do I need to set my own session lifetime in each situation?

Sessions are always set to 15 minutes.
