How to organize a convenient layout storage for the design and interface design department?

Hello. Tell me what system and layout organization you use in your company/department for ease of access with goodies like version control, thoughtful and understandable structure, etc.
What is now:
Layouts are stored mainly on the personal computers of designers, or on a common local server, where all the files of other departments are also stored. Computers on the network. Hence the following problems:

  • Access to files, if they are on the designer's computer, from the network is available only when the designer is on site and his computer is turned on. Leaving personal computers on 24/7 is prohibited - this is only possible with servers.
  • Layouts on local computers are stored in folders in such a structure that the designer himself (computer user) came up with, respectively, except for him, no one understands this structure quickly. In addition, some layouts can generally be lost after the dismissal of the designer, for example.
  • The structure of storing layouts on the local server is such that a newbie in the design department cannot independently find the required old ready-made layout without the help of seniors. Or, for example, a significant part of the layouts is outdated and cannot be guided by - this is not reported in the layout itself. It would be great to attribute some tags or fields to the layout file. For example, to sign the software versions for which these layouts were created, but keep in mind only that, for example, after version 1.5, the design has changed and all older layouts are irrelevant. Naming folders as software versions will not work - some layouts are relevant from version to version, some may be redrawn each version.

In general, if you narrow down the question, then you probably get "How to create a structure that takes into account all the subtleties of working with layouts of the design department."
PS A similar topic was discussed in the neighborhood , but online access is needed there, but this is not necessary for us. But there is only one answer, and all the rest are silent. I understand that it is not customary on Toaster to bring up old topics if the new question is different (in the rules it is recommended to create separate questions to narrow the topic).

Dropbox is well suited for these purposes , files can be stored both locally and remotely.
As for the structure, it's a matter of personal preference, whichever is more convenient for you.

As Vitaly Sorokin already said, Dropbox is great for these purposes . But, also, there are solutions with support for version control, such as Layervault

When we had to transfer all the data to the storage cloud, we simply hired IT people who would do everything for us). The decision was made after the "brilliant" creation of our admin. Used the services of this company verna.ua/ . And we also organized everything through Dropbox. I recommend contacting this company.
