How to optimize PC performance?

Good afternoon, recently the PC has started to slow down a lot (manifested in: program download speed, opening files of various types, windows download speed), tell me a couple of tips or resources that describe how to improve and speed up your PC, as well as utilities that do you use for these needs?

The best way:
1. Save all important files (in the cloud, on an external drive) and cleanly reinstall the system.
2. Perhaps the cause of the brakes is overheating. Open, clean everything. Check that all coolers are working. Remove them, clean the work surfaces and reapply thermal paste. (detailed videos are on YouTube)
3. Add an SSD drive and put the main operating system and all programs on it.

Save the data, rearrange the Windows. Simple and secure!

Start by uploading the boot image to a USB flash drive, boot from it and check the brakes.

  • Brakes are present - Problem with iron.
  • The brakes have disappeared (in reality, there is a very high probability of this) - Reinstall the OS in half an hour (as Vladimir Martyanov said ) and do not waste time on all sorts of defragmentation, registry cleaning and other dead poultices.

Would write a PC configuration - then it would be clearer.
And there can be many reasons - from lack of RAM and overheating to slow dying of the hard drive. So the advice to reinstall the system first is stupid and harmful.
1. Make a diagnosis of the "iron" part - call a specialist or take it to the service center.
2. Based on the results, take action. And then you will reinstall and reinstall - but there will be no sense.

1) the most important thing is not to clog the computer, sandboxes are suitable for this
2) when, if all the same, clutter happened - look at the list of startup services, etc., maybe something that installed itself hangs there (here it is desirable to understand what is happening at all, otherwise the last item will be inevitable)
3) check the temperatures / dust, etc.
4) do an elementary defragmentation
5) check the settings of the BIOS and hard drives (once there was a case where PIO appeared instead of UDMA - hellish brakes)
6) ????
7) nothing helped? - reinstall everything

Put an SSD, you will be surprised that the computer boots in 3-4 seconds, and the programs are less than a second. But before thoughtlessly reinstalling the system, it is better to diagnose everything. One friend came to all sorts of felt-tip pens, reinstalled Windows and a week later everything broke down again, but no one thought to scan the hard drive.

Here are the recommendations =)
No need to reinstall anything that you are carrying ... Analysis and adequate actions are needed.
1. We find out where the bottleneck is: CPU, memory, video, hard drive.
2. We find out the cause: overheating, irrational use of resources, degradation, ...
3. Eliminate the cause.
Some typical actions:
1. Look in the task manager what is eating up resources, is it possible to get rid of these applications.
2. Remove unnecessary stuff from startup.
3. Disable unused services.
4. Update the drivers to the latest versions.
5. Remove unused programs.
6. Use special utilities to clean and defragment the registry.
7. Find out if you need to defragment your hard drive. Execute if yes.
8. System properties -> add. options -> performance. There we turn off unnecessary effects.
9. Check the readings of the temperature sensors, if overheating, take action.
10. Check hard drives for errors.
11. Check memory for errors.
If it turns out that the reason is in the gland, we change the offending piece of iron to a suitable one.
PS Windows
version?
