How to optimize chromium for a less weak machine?

Characteristics:
Processor ARM1176JZ-F 700 MHz, 512 MB RAM
Version:
Chromium 22.0.1229.94 Built on Debian 7.0, running on Debian 8.0
As I understand it is possible to disable any 3d and other unnecessary crap in chrome, but how and where to read about it

Do you really need chrome? Maybe something easier to use - Midori is acceptable. What graphical environment?
