How to open your repository via Atom?

Hi I'm
using Atom to write a website. I recently learned about Github Pages, I would like to make sure that I have files locally on my computer, I edit them and they are synchronized with the github repository and the site itself running on Pages is updated accordingly. Can this be done?
If possible, a description for dummies...

github has a client https://desktop.github.com/
just for dummies. edit - push changes. profit
