How to migrate from RoR (v4) asset_pipeline to webpack 2?

The project is running on angular 1.6 + RoR4 . At the moment we want to migrate to webpack. Who has experience? Can you please tell me what are the pitfalls?

Pitfall - the amount of time to rework, depending on the scope of your project.
I recommend considering the frontend as a separate application and keeping it in a separate repository.
