How to merge Facebook pages?

I have a public page of the company and a personal profile on which, instead of the first and last name, the name of the company is written. I heard that you can transfer a personal profile to a public page, and then combine two pages into one, and all this while maintaining subscribers.
Has anyone done this? Pros, cons, pitfalls?
