How to make youtube links open immediately in VLC when clicked?

This refers to links NOT in the browser, but in some other applications.
Like these:

https://youtu.be/xxxxxxxxxxx
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxxxxxxxxxx

That is, regular links should open in the default browser, as is happening now, and specifically YouTube - in VLC.

How to achieve this?

PS Manually this is done through the menu Media -> Open URL...
