probably resize works, doesn't it? check settings

You need to set your image sizes in the admin panel.
In Opencart 2.0-2.1: Go to System - Settings - Edit Shop - Images Tab.
In Opencart 2.2-2.3: go to Modules - Themes - Edit Theme
Pictures are cropped to given sizes in this section.
