You can put AirDroid on your tablet and upload files through the browser or download as an alternative to the cable. Please note that both the computer and the tablet must be connected to the same network.

As I understand it, you only have PTP and MTP mode in your tablet, and the flash drive emulation mode is disabled.
use MTP and everything will be ok.
problems with MTP drivers were only in ancient win xp, and even then they were quickly installed.
the flash drive emulation mode was abandoned, because the emulation mode was implemented through a block device and it was necessary to disconnect the drive from the tablet.
MTP works on a per-file basis and such a shutdown is not required.

Switch to "file transfer" mode. In all phones known to me (starting from the oldest Samsung on 2.4.2), this mode was. But if suddenly it is not there (and anything can happen) - use the MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) mode - this is also a type of file transfer mode, but with troubles.
