How to make nginx a daemon on ubuntu 14.04?

Good day everyone!
We need nginx with the ngx_http_image_filter_module on ubuntu 14.04 . We
managed to build it from sources on the test server and resize images. Failed to make it a demon. I tried this hack: on the production server, replace the nginx binary (v1.4) with the one compiled on the test server (v1.12), but it did not work.
How to demonize it? Is there a PPA with ngx_http_image_filter_module enabled?

The standard packages nginx-full and nginx-extras have it.
