How to make monitor friends with MX Linux\Debian?
Good day, guys!
There is a problem of the following nature. There is mx linux 19.2, a viewsonic va2216w monitor (1680x1050\only vga), an msi gtx 770 video card (dvi\hdmi) and of course a dvi>vga adapter. When I try to install from live-usb, I see the message "Out of range", most likely the frequency is not selected correctly. I solved the problem by setting video=1280x1024 or setting it to safe video mode. Initially, I thought about the cable, the data on the sweep and the range of resolutions simply did not pull up. The cable was replaced with a working one and found that this did not solve the problem. After installation, the free nouveau driver is detected correctly, but the required permission range is simply not there. Among other things, the image "moved" a little to the right (vertical black line on the left). Installing the proprietary nvidia driver (418 or 440) didn't do much either, other than performance gains and image adjustments (no more streaks). I solved the problem of the frequency range and resolutions by writing in xorg.config (along the path /etc/x11/ ) the desired horizontal\vertical frequency range (I found everything I needed in the specifications of my monitor). After that, the necessary permissions appeared. But handwriting is not a very good solution, because. when booting in live mode from a flash drive or updating firewood, xorg rubs and had to do everything over again. I also noticed that when installing the nvidia driver, xorg.config is not created automatically, you have to create it yourself. I want to ask you for advice on how to solve this problem. How to start all this in a normal, human mode. So that everything is pulled up and determined by the machine. Could this be due to the dvi>vga adapter? (In Windows everything works out of the box).
P.s. Kernel 5.6 (tried on more "younger ones"). I also want to note that it is simply impossible to dump the edid monitor. in the nvidia-settings utility, this function is not active.
