How to make double click in notepad++ select $ as well?

Double-clicking on a variable name will not highlight the $ in front of the variable. I can not find the settings where to set which characters to highlight.

There are no such settings there.
But it's Open Source, so you can try to dig into it and change it. :)
Here stackoverflow.com/questions/5092725/catching-a-php... there seems to be some solution using AutoHotkey.
In general, use an IDE like PhpStorm instead.
