How to make an optional downloadable preview for a multiple ImageField?

Added a multiple field ImageField to the node type. I generate previews automatically, everything is fine.
But here the customer had a wish that he could upload some previews himself (he does not always like the result of automatic cropping and resizing).
I think how to implement it. The first thing that came to mind was to create a node type, for example, Image with two fields (main photo and preview), and then bind it with a multiple field through a node reference. But this is some kind of crooked decision, there will be a lot of photos and choosing each one in the list is painfully troublesome.
Is there a good module for this?

Field multiple limit - display the number of images in the preview. And when creating a node and adding pictures, there is the force of dragging pictures.
