How to make a slideshow of images with different types of transitions on a server running Ubuntu 14.04?

Good afternoon!
It is required to make slideshow on the server from a set of pictures. I figured out with ffmpeg, there you can make a video from a set of pictures, you can make a fade-in / out effect for the appearance / disappearance of pictures. But what if you want to make several types of transitions. There are a lot of sites on the Internet that make slideshows with various transitions, there must be some kind of tool.
I did not find anything normal, can anyone come across similar tasks and can tell what tools to use?
While there is an idea to find an editor where through the terminal it will be possible to glue two pictures, for example, draw one picture on top of the other at a scale of 50%, then 51%, etc. thereby creating frames for the transition, then using ffmpeg to combine them into a video and get a video with the transition.
