How to make a colored logo grey?

napoleon_chb.png- Here is the desired result.
I'm going to make from this - efa6229d3cdc4632bb3ec7bbbaf69a35.jpg
I applied the desaturation effect, but it turns out a black and white logo, not gray. Thank you!

Try to select the black color, copy the pixels to a new layer and put a gray color on them, and hide the layer in the color. The quality, of course, is very controversial, but this is the fastest way in the absence of a vector image.

Use Adjustment Layers. In this case, the sequence is:
1) Add "Black & White" (to make the image black and white) and change the value of "Reds" to 120 (to make the flame white).
2) Add "Hue/Saturation" and change the "Lightness" value to +50 (maybe less) to get a gray color for the entire logo.
