How to load an image into an image field by URL in Drupal?

Good afternoon, I have a task, I need to automatically upload an image via a hot link in the field automatically when creating a new material.
Googled this solution. it seems to be correct, but I don’t know PHP, it’s hard to understand how to use it

maybe it’s somehow possible using RULES PHP to use , by action = CREATE NEW MATERIAL

Did not note that filefield_sources is not suitable, because a very heavy solution for such a task, and it has no concept of a default value for loading by URL
