How to learn to maintain your software after publication?

Hello, in addition to my main work, I write mobile applications for myself and almost always post them to the public (market or .apk), sometimes even with source codes. I do not use any monetization, except for donations. I notice that after the active development phase, any desire to even use these applications disappears, not to mention fixing non-critical bugs and adding new features.
Question: why is this happening and how to learn how to support your software after publication?

I think even if you do not use advertising, then at least the in-game store should be done in games. it will be better than a simple donation. then and as it was said above - and there will be motivation, because it will not be a pity to spend time and effort on this.
