How to intercept Internet traffic from a smartphone?

Friends, please tell me how you can organize the logging of all traffic that the phone requests on the Internet? Actually, I want to check if the phone sends suspicious packets by itself, being in standby mode but connected to the network. I see the following solution: the phone connects to a local wifi point (it is also a router) and now you need to somehow log all traffic on this router, just like the wireshark program logs. Here I don't know what to do next. Or are there other methods?

I have such an idea, I don’t know if it’s suitable:
1. install wireshark on a PC
2. connect the phone to the PC via WIFI
3. monitor traffic through the computer? :-)

For Windows, the CommView for WI-FI program, but not all WI-FI cards are suitable and it is desirable to run on XP. You can also try downloading Back Track Linux, there are definitely utilities for your needs, but I don’t remember the names.
