How to interact with an application inside a Docker container?

I am just starting to learn Docker and I want to install the imgproxy tubemaker , which the author himself recommends running in a container.

Do I understand correctly that I do not need to containerize the main application and I will be able to interact with imgproxy through the port opened by docker?
