How to install TP-LINK Archer T2U WIFI adapter driver in Linux Mint 4.4.0?

I bought a TP-LINK Archer T2U adapter, but did not take into account that the official Linux drivers for it are outdated and do not fit my Linux Mint 4.4.0 kernel (although not new either).
As a result, the adapter is not detected and does not work.
I found a link to an unofficial driver on the manufacturer's website: https://github.com/lixz789/mt7610u_wifi_sta_v3002_...
I downloaded it to a USB flash drive, but it's not clear how to install it into the system. I am just starting to work with Linux, please tell me how to install this driver.

Linux and hardware.
Through the console, try to go to the directory with the unpacked driver and there:

./configure (выдаст ошибку, но всё же)
make
install

This should, at a minimum, create a module, which we will already cut further.
In general, I would then roll back to the old kernel.
