How to install the latest version of GPA in Linux Mint 17.3?

Hello!
I'm trying to figure out how to "canonical" and correctly install a more recent version of GPA (Gnu Privacy Assistant) in Linux Mint 17.3, this distribution is based on Ubuntu 14.04, and, accordingly, the repositories contain quite old software with a bunch of unfixed problems... For me, this is a strong pain.
Question: Launchpad has the latest versions of the package
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gpa
For The Wily Werewolf (current stable release) there is version 0.9.7-2
For The Xenial Xerus (active development) there is the latest version 0.9.9
I would like to install at least the Current Stable Release.
