How to install Skype on Xubuntu 14.04?

The official Skype website has versions for classic ubuntu or debian. When trying to put these installers on Xubuntu 14.04 through the terminal, I encounter an unknown error. There is no such program in the distribution's Software Center at all.
Is there any proven way to install more or less the latest version of skype for this build?
Switching distro is not an option as it's an old laptop with weak hardware and I'm afraid the standard ubuntu won't work well on it, especially given the fact that even Xubuntu doesn't work as fast as we'd like.

Kind.
Download from skype.com "Ubuntu 12.04 (Multiarch)". We install and everything works. Works for me.
It is also in the application center, though the old version of skype 4.2.0.11.
