How to install MODX on vagrant scotch box?

Hello.
After installing box.scotch.io in vagrant and checking if it worked I tried to run MODX. To do this, I unpacked the contents into the vagrant/public/ folder. Going to the modx/setup address, I saw an inscription about a critical error and an indication of checking php write permissions in /var/www/public/core.
Has anyone come across this and know how to beat it?
Tried to change the permissions to 755 and give access to www-data recursively both in the local folder and in the virtual machine.
