How to install latest ubuntu axis on external screw?

Good day to all!
I read on some forum that before installing ubunta, you need to somehow divide the disk into partitions (it seems) and upload everything to the new boot partition. Tried to google - somehow plainly nothing was found on this request.

The question is: do I need this unknown partition, how do I make one, and are there any subtleties in installing Ubuntu on an external drive?

there are no features. just boot from the iso and select the desired disk in the installer
