There is such a comic distribution project - RebeccaBlackOS , which was created specifically to satisfy curiosity and touch Wayland / Weston. It is a LiveCD that can be run through a virtual machine. One of the latest versions is dated 2014-02-24 . There is also a March version 2014-03-01 , however, the catalog in which it lies for some reason dates from 2013, although the images are from 2014.
I tried this assembly six months ago, it was very, very raw. Everything fell constantly, hung, crashed. The design of applications written using different toolkits is different. And a bunch of other bugs.
How the situation is now - I do not know. If you try - be sure to unsubscribe about performance.
By the way, there is also a Maui project with a DE written in Qt5 that also uses Wayland/Weston. True, I have not yet had a chance to try this distribution kit. Good luck!
