I have been thinking for a long time about how to slightly secure the work of my PC with the network. This also includes the issue of anonymity. There are many services that are blocked in my region or in the whole country.
At first I thought about VPN. Not free, but cheap. But, after reading the answers to such questions, I got the impression that when using a VPN, the security level drops even lower)

No way.
Only with a general increase in computer literacy. Well, for starters, it would be nice to decide what or who you are going to protect yourself from? Security is a pretty general definition.
For example, you can put a router - and this will noticeably increase it (if, of course, the admin password is changed there :)). If it is Mikrotik, it will increase it even more. If you cut off direct connections to tyrnet by setting a proxy, this will increase it even more. If you put NoScript in the browser - more ... And so on. There are many measures, each of which gives a small increase, but in total they all pump it well.
As for anonymity, everything is noticeably more complicated. Real anonymity in the network is achieved at the cost of very complex and very expensive measures :) And it still turns out to be useless as soon as thermorectal cryptanalysis is used :)
More or less acceptable anonymity is your own VPS, on which your own VPN is deployed, through which all traffic that have to hide.

Turn off your computer, router, phone, smartphone, watch... In general, turn everything off, urgently emigrate to the taiga, give up electricity, switch to self-sufficiency.
