How to improve WSUS performance?

Colleagues, help speed up or find a bottleneck in the performance of an existing WSUS server. It takes quite a long time to generate reports on the server.

Hardware configuration :

  • ESXi 6.0 and later (VM version 11)
  • 8 vCPUs Intel Xeon CPU E5-2698 v3 @ 2.3 GHz
  • RAM 18 Gb
  • 100Gb SSD 3PAR (System Partition)
  • 1024Gb SSD 3PAR_LUN (WsusContent Section)
  • vmxnet3 Ethernet Adapter 10 Gbps

Software configuration:
  • Windows Server 1809 Standard (17763.1158)
  • DB: built into Windows Server SUSDB (\\.\pipe\MICROSOFT##WID\tsql\query)
  • WSUS server version: 10.0.17763.678
  • Total PCs on WSUS: 740
  • Total Updates on WSUS: 17575
  • Total Groups on WSUS: 67

I know about the "Disk Cleanup Wizard" section, once a week I run my hands one operation from this section. Maybe someone has everyday advice or best practices on how to cook and cook this combine.

Once you have set this tag, then the answer will be: install MS SQL Server and you will be able to use the "SQL query optimization" and "Database administration" tags.
Clean up and compress the database, add indexes on the request of the report and everything will fly.
Documentation: Migrating a WSUS Database from WID to SQL . In your case, you can place SUSDB on the second partition.
