The task is to display the stream, which I receive via the RTSP protocol. I found the Vidoe.js player, it has RTMP support, so in theory you can set up a media server on nginx and convert RTSP to RTMP, but this is an extreme case! Has anyone come across a similar issue, please help!

Плееры играют то, что позволяет проиграть платформа - браузер и операционка. RTSP на десктопе не поддерживается нигде кроме VLC. Плюс Андроид его понимает из коробки.
Так что да - делайте транзмаксинг из RTSP в любой формат, который понимают - RTMP или HLS. Для этого можно использовать любой медиа-сервер из описанных мной здесь.
