How to implement the search algorithm for similar users?

Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. I have an interesting problem, but in view of the fact that I have never encountered this, I don’t even know which way to google.
The essence of the problem: there is a certain set of user characteristics (for example, hair color, eye color, height, weight, a list of subscriptions to certain tags, a list of friends), there can be sooo many of them in the future, it is necessary to combine the most similar users into groups, the groups themselves must be generated automatically.
Usage example: for example, when I go to a toaster, I see a list of 10 users who are most similar to me in terms of professional interests.
I think that humanity has already come up with more than one algorithm for these purposes, so I turn to you, please tell me what methods are there for implementing the plan, what you can read on this topic and what would be the best way out.
