How to identify the weak link in a slow PC?

DD.
Often relatives, friends bring their pieces of iron with the words that everything hangs, everything is in viruses, etc.
I immediately say that I will not clean anything in the system, I will transfer important information to an external drive, install the system from scratch and upload the data back. If it does not help, then I open it, clean everything from dust and replace the thermal paste. In general, it all helped and everyone was happy. But lately this is not enough, I excuse myself that I did everything I could and most likely either RAM or HDD or something else. If there are tests in the BIOS, then of course I run them, but often there is none. The OS is mostly windows 7/8/10
Q: Is there any way to find the reason for the slowdown of a clean OS? For example, what is a live image of the system (windows, nix), which will help test RAM, disk, etc. That it was possible to speak more specifically the diagnosis of the patient?
Are there any articles or tips on this?
Thanks in advance.

Hardware problems:
1) Download Hirren boot cd and write to a disc \ USB flash drive \ PXE
2) Check with MHDD (HDD TEST), memtest (MEMORY TEST), Wmtesting (VIDEOTEST)
programs Software problems:
1) Compare resource consumption, can the computer be loaded by complete. For example, less than 2 GB of RAM for Win7+ x64\Office 2007+\1c\AD+GPO+ can cause problems. Also look at the processor frequency and cache. Perhaps the system should be simpler.
2) Cleaning from viruses
3) Cleaning from malware (ADWCleaner is a great program)
4) open the task manager again and see what's wrong.

In my experience, for iron, especially the old one, the main causes of brakes are dying disks and a banal lack of resource-capacity. The state of the disk can be adequately assessed by smart. Next, you need to know a typical scenario for using a computer, reproduce it and look in the task manager, the resource monitor of which the typewriter lacks for happiness. Again, from personal experience, most often there is not enough memory. Now "yes, I'm only on the Internet" is no longer an indicator. Each additional browser tab eats memory just like that!

They made the Total 360 tool a long time ago and it cleans and checks for viruses and is generally a sweetheart. Works with smartphones too. The last time I cleaned my smartphone - it began to fly like from scratch.
For windows, too, irreplaceable weight.
And the fact that you carry the vuruses from place to place is of little use. But the master is a gentleman, however

Frequent cases of freezing, at least that I know:
1. Old hard that needs to be changed already
2. Frequent system or program updates
3. Parallel program processes, such as update managers or error handling services
4. Lack of RAM for running programs
5 Just a weak computer with a low clock speed and a slow process
If there are these reasons, then no registry cleaners will help

Quick help from such a disease as "computer slows down" - a batch file in autoload:

del /s /q %TEMP%\*.*
rd /s /q %TEMP%
mkdir %TEMP%

After the first reboot, a significant part of the brakes may disappear ...
However, I usually use this tool in laboratory conditions - for users who do not have rights to pollute the system with malware. Helps them.
