How to hide the dev web server from strangers?

Hello,
let's assume that there is a digital ocean dev server with sites on it, there is also a production site on which the same kitchen is spinning for general access. How would you restrict access to the maiden "for your own"? http auth somehow gemorno)

If you have all your "friends" sitting in one or a small number of offices, then you can restrict access to the ip-addresses of these offices in the web server or in iptables.

Well, then you can hang the dev-site on a separate port, hang up an ACL for the dev-site, fasten TLS authorization for it, block it using iptables...
