How to hide parents but leave their children in the taxonomy?

Hello ! There are two parent categories: "By place" and "By type", there are no goods in the categories themselves, of course there are in their children. The parent categories themselves are only needed to understand where to send the product. But not needed in filters and so on. If you remove these categories with a hook, then their children are also hidden. How can you hide the parent categories or the first level categories, but leave their children in the 2nd level, 3rd level, and so on?
