How to get user status on facebook using python?

Hello. I want to write a python script that notifies when a certain user is online on facebook. But I don't know how to get information about its status/activity. As far as I understand, this cannot be done through the Graph API, only through FQL. And FQL is considered deprecated. What then to use?
