How to get started with IT and programming?

It’s even hard for me to call myself a beginner, only I’ve stuck my nose in this area for now. I see a lot of complex, interesting and alluring, but I can’t understand where it’s better to start. I would like to know how suitable this area is for me, if I could work in it. What do I need to read / learn / ask myself for this?
PS math is not a problem, user level computer skills are fine, no programming experience

Programming, in general, is very different. The concept of IT is even broader.
If programming - the best option is to take a book on Python\Android\JavaScript for beginners and start reading, doing, trying.
As questions and misunderstandings arise, get distracted and read on related technologies (to understand how everything works - all sorts of webs, compilers, memory, etc.).
Of course, you can immediately impose a distant and general theory, but it is easier to understand as problems arise.
According to the materials, I personally think that the O`Reily books from the Head First cycle are ideal for beginners. For example shop.oreilly.com/product/0636920003434.do in python.
An accessible presentation, including "the basics", a lot of puzzles, illustrations and a minimum of excessive academicism.
Well, + of course all sorts of video courses. For example udemy and courser. There, too, you can focus on the "for beginners" segment.
Do not forget that you need to not only read, but also invent yourself: make your own, albeit small and crooked, but projects. So you will learn how to turn everyday "Wishlist" into implementation from the code side.

Pick a direction to start. Then JAP.
Read about the basics of programming.
Learn algorithms and data structures.

Follow the call of your intuition and heart, to some extent they know more than you, and whoever is responsible here!
