How to get started with ethical hacking?
Hello. I have always been interested in topics related to hacking, reverse engineering, searching for vulnerabilities, etc.
Googling "how to become a hacker" isn't likely to be a good idea, so I came here for advice.
I don't know where to start. In fact, I'm just entering the university, I studied C in K&R and Java, but I would like to start getting acquainted with this topic at the same time. Of these things, I heard about zero security, but I don’t know if it’s suitable or not, but among the books I found only those that came out a long time ago and everyone talks about it in the comments. In general, I do not know who to ask for advice on this topic.
Thank you.

If you know how to configure, then you know how to hack.
Learn to tune.
Learn how everything works - protocols, operating system, libraries
Learn to program a little in several languages so you can write simple tools and use them
Try to parse something.
Reverse engineering : assembly language, sishka, executable file formats of different operating systems. Well, and so, take someone else's laba.exe on a conditional Delphi, disassemble and try to change something without source codes, that's your practice in reverse engineering.
Web and networks : XSS, CSRF, PHP/SQL injection, network protocols, encryption protocols, MITM.
Also, you can look here (Security section): 3
Note that reverse engineering is illegal in the US, even if you hack your own thing.

In Russia - legal if you own what hack.
For example, if you bought 1C, but do not want to put a key on it, hack into 1C, then this is exclusively your own business.
https://exelab.ru/ - you can ask the question "I'm interested in ...", and you will be prompted for something specific.
Be sure to read the topic "Teapot Diaries" in the beginner section, I think you will like it :)
