How to get message text from Skype using WinAPI?

Is it possible to get message text from Skype using WinAPI?
Is it possible to control the Skype message box using WinAPI?
I was able to get the Skype message box ID using User32.dll from an external application (C compatible language),
but I can't read the message or do anything with the message box, such as make the window active, close the window, etc.
What am I doing wrong?
