How to get message history from jabber server?

I am writing my own jabber client for android, and there was a problem with downloading the message history from the server.
That is, if my client is not working at the moment, and the user uses another client for correspondence, then how can I synchronize the history later?

xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0136.html#auto - read the 6th and 7th paragraphs.
Please note that the server must have message history storage enabled.
