How to get familiar with PHP version 5.6?

I'm starting to comprehend PHP a little understood the basics, but I found out that it makes no sense to get acquainted below version 5.3 ... and various textbooks until 2008. there's no point in scrolling either.
As I understand it, it's better to get acquainted with version 5.5 right away, and 5.6 is better ... Soon, after all, 7 will appear :-)
Question: can you recommend some textbook \ article \ blog where it would be sensible to get acquainted with PHP version 5.6 with various examples, or in general with the creation of a full-fledged dynamic site, so that everything is there and you can see the work with the database (connections, queries, etc.), etc. ?

php.net - The official PHP documentation is pretty good, it covers all the basics. Next, we read books. Well, all accompanied by practice.

It still makes sense to study PHP 5.3 a little, sometimes you have to support such Frankensteins (or port them), so you still need to have an idea about the deprecated mysql_* functions.
And start with this article: getjump.github.io/en-php-the-right-way
True, it is designed for someone who already knows PHP, but it perfectly shows all the features and normal practices of late PHP
