How to get data from COM port in Python?

Good afternoon, there are industrial scales that transmit data to the COM port, how to receive them using MSCOMM32.OSX?
PS I tried to do this using the pyserial package , but I could only read data from the com port to which the mouse is connected, as it turned out, this happens because pyserial works with the com port as a file.
