How to get a publisher's certificate (so that there are no scary messages when installing the program)?
I have been selling the program for several years and I know that during the initial installation, a sign is displayed
"Allow the following program to make changes on this computer to the following program from an unknown publisher."
That would be half the trouble. But recently (from regular customers) I learned about the existence of more serious problems. They cannot install the program - the following messages appear on startup:
- Failed to check the program publisher.
- The file is rarely downloaded and can harm your computer.
- Windows 8 - Smart Screen protected the computer.
That is, to run the program, you need to go through two scary messages and confirm that you understand all the risks, but still want to install the program.
Thus, I think, at least 50% of new clients with the Windows 8 operating system are lost (the regular ones will somehow survive, but the new ones will not understand).
And because of the sign "Allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes on this computer," I think 10-20% of Windows 7 users are lost. Although the situation here is, in principle, acceptable.
I read the information on the Internet - you need to get a Comodo trusted publisher certificate - about $ 100.
But here is the situation - I sell programs as an individual, I don’t have my LLC or IP (it’s scary to register an LLC, I’ll have to suffer with tax accounting, and if an IP is an ass there, they say, property is taken away).
Therefore, I want to register a certificate for the LLC of my friends. But what if they close their LLC (business is such a thing)? Will the certificate expire immediately, or will it still work until the end of the term?
And will it be possible to re-register a certificate for a new LLC, LLC of other acquaintances, or will it need to be obtained again from scratch? As I understand it, the certificate must still earn trust - so that signs do not appear
- The file is rarely downloaded and can harm the computer.
- Windows 8 - Smart Screen protected the computer.
And if things go well and I want to open my own LLC, will it be possible to re-register for my own LLC?

Is this certificate no worse than Komodo?
Is it possible to get it for an individual (so that there are no problems in case of periodic migration from one LLC to another)?
severodvinsk1987, A certificate from Comodo will not help you. You need not just a code signing certificate, but a certificate with Extended Validation. I myself faced the same problem - I also sell software, so here, happiness is in EV, they know how to get it. You can get it from Symantec and DigiCert, but you must be a legal entity. person to give such a signature. At DigiCert, such a signature costs $449 per year.
