How to get a position of a full-time layout designer?

Good day to all. I understand that it was recommended in the portal rules not to ask several questions at once, but I'll take a chance ;)
I want to get into web development closely, and I'm worried about the following:
1) What is the minimum and average threshold of knowledge / skills for the position of junior frontend developer?
2) How rich is the portfolio required to be interested in me?
3) Is the absence of a higher technical education critical, in the presence of a higher humanitarian one?
4) Now I know html + css at a level sufficient to lay out not the most complex web page. If I learn js + get my hands on it, will I be able to interest the employer and what salary can I apply for?
5) What is the state of the market now? Are there many, few front-enders? How much are they valued and for what qualities/knowledge?)
Thanks in advance for your help.

1. What exactly is enough: HTML5/CSS3/LESS/SASS/Bootstrap/Foundation/JavaScript (Jquery is required, all plugins or the vast majority on it)/Responsiveness
2. 10 confident works, well-commented code is enough
3. Tech. The education of a layout designer is ridiculous. Humanities will suffice.
4. Without it, nowhere. I don’t know the salary for your region
5. A good specialist is always needed, and here the point is the ability to understand the work environment, love your job, be an ace or on the way to this state, and not a motley portfolio, etc.

I don’t live in Moscow, I have a school + vocational school education, I got a job as a typesetter, not having a single job in my portfolio and being able to typeset only the simplest pages.
I just sent a letter to all the web studios in my city, in which I wrote that I want to work for them as a layout designer and for the first month or two I am ready to work for a small amount in exchange for knowledge. Of the 20 studios, 4 responded. Some called for an interview, others gave a test task. Having completed 2 test tasks (simple pages), I showed them during the interview. As a result, I have been working as a layout designer for the third month. I do not regret that I went to the office - if anything, senior comrades tell and explain everything.
I learned a lot in 2 months, now I have begun to delve into JS slowly.
I would recommend acting approximately according to my scenario, if they take you for training, you will very quickly learn everything that is necessary for work. Although it will be hard at first.

1. HTML4/5, CSS2/3 - definitions, specification. This is the minimum level.
- How to align block/blocks to center/left/right/vertical/baseline?
- Grid (grid): how to implement, features, pitfalls?
- Insert a picture on the page: features, options, but "so that it is printed"?
- DOM/HTML/XHTML/SVG difference.
- Google CSS Guide , Github CSS Guide or any other agreement on how to write CSS/LESS/Stylus
All other questions are purely project specific. And it can vary from interview to interview. Often, those who are interviewing themselves do not know the exact answers to their questions. Here the answer should be matched with the "expected answer".
2. The number of works is a guarantee that we managed to face various problems.
- 0 works - you just need to know the specification phenomenally. A good memory and knowledge of English is the key to a successful interview.
- 2-5 works "from scratch" are enough to get an idea about the technique of writing code
- 10 - 2-5 works will still be randomly viewed
- 150 - 2-5 works will still be viewed. Just 150 works give a sickly experience.
3. If you were told at the interview that the lack of technical education is a minus, you probably should not go to this company. A completed higher education means that the candidate is at least to some extent able to cope with difficulties. But the item itself is not a guarantee that the candidate will be diligent in work projects.
4. Kiev/Lvov/Chernihiv/.. - $400..$600 - this is normal for a novice coder
If you have JavaScript knowledge - you can claim $1000...$1500
5. The market needs coder-slaves. Lot. People come to "layouts" and leave... But the tasks remain, and there will still be enough of them.
Appreciated for "interdisciplinary" knowledge. Interviews like to ask academic questions, but in work you have to deal with real browsers, real users, and real team relationships.
Ideally, the frontend should ideally understand how the browser works, how they interact with the server, understand network issues, be aware of the restrictions "by specification" and release features in the software ... and then he is called Frontend Archetechtor or Senior Practice Frontend Lead. But even people in these positions have limited knowledge. Therefore, different people with different knowledge are in demand in the market.
Dare! Good luck!

as always, a terrible lack of specialists and tear off with his hands
, my friend works as a layout designer
freelancer
, judging by the way he travels, drives a car and does not break off to shoot one for 25 thousand in fucking Novosibirsk, he gets 4-6 times more than me
, which is approximately in the range of 100-200k rubles

I am from Omsk. A permanent layout designer is needed in large companies, my knowledge of HTML CSS, + knowledge of PHP engines, the ability to use various sliders, and other elements that are in every design, it is not necessary to know the code, the main thing is the ability to take ready-made solutions and change them for yourself, nothing more is needed from you. They hired them only after the landing page was finalized, now they give WordPress projects for processing, I make admin panels for sites so that it is convenient for the client to change everything, and so on, there is a lot of work!

It seems to me that now they simply don’t hire tailors. Usually they are looking for front-end developers with knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript right away.

start with a smaller studio, which are in dire need of specialists, and are forced to hire people with almost no experience, as long as someone does the work, how (and if) you outgrow the level of the studio - go further, always fill your hand “in battle”, on real orders when deadlines are pressed

Sorry, I did not specify the city - Moscow.
One more question. I know that there are courses on js (it is clear that no one needs courses from Filkina Literata LLC, but there are also serious ones), how useful are they for self-education and for a portfolio?
