There is a Samsung GT-S5570 phone, it bricked, you can only download it in Downloading mode, but Windows 10 writes:

This device cannot be started. (Code 10)
A non-existent device was specified.

I did filters in VirtualBox - it did not help, in VMware auto-forwarding did not help either.

I would try booting from a live-CD. In virtual machines, only more or less standard USB devices are normally forwarded.

Have you tried it without filters in vbox? There is an option to simply forward the USB device. Here is an example:
