How to fix the problem "The application "system" is not responding" on Xiaomi?

There was a rather unexpected problem with Xiaomi Redmi 3 Pro: I put it on charge for the night, woke up and saw the following on the main screen:

The phone does not function, but shows the current time and the amount of charge; the touch buttons below the display also work. If you hold down the power button, a menu for shutdown / reboot appears, but these functions also do not work. The phone can only be restarted by holding down the power button for a long time. I also tried to go into recovery, but only a window with the inscription fastboot opens there, and it does not enter the menu itself. The phone gets quite hot when turned on normally. It seems to me that the matter is in the battery, since this problem arose after a long charge (although this did not happen before), and the wire was rather dubious. Can this be fixed by replacing the battery or something else?

Factory reset via recovery via vol + and off

There are 2 options: Either reset everything to factory settings via recovery, or flash it. Since I came across this and only a reset helped me.
