How to fix git?

Good day!
I ask for your help, because I accidentally broke something.
I have git on my server where I keep all my projects. I once installed gitlab, which I later decided to remove. But I deleted the campaign somehow crookedly, because after the server reboot I can’t connect to the git at all now.
Even when I try to connect stupidly via ssh, I can’t log in, I get an error:

$ ssh [email protected]***.***.***

[email protected]***.***.***'s password:

Could not chdir to home directory /var/opt/gitlab: No such file or directory
$

How can I fix this? gitlab has been completely removed.
When I connect as root, the /home/git user is fine inside.
PS before gitlab, I initialized git itself, it worked for more than a year, then apparently gitlab somehow hung up its rights or something else ... I'm bad at administering the server, so I'm not sure what exactly I did wrong.

look at the git user's home directory. Most likely, /var/opt/gitlab was it, and after deleting gitlab, the folder was also deleted.
