How to fix black screen on connection?

Today I bought a monitor, checked for broken pixels - everything is cool.
I brought it home (brought it !!!), connected it via a dvi cable + adapter to thunderbolt - the result in the photo

I took it back, decided not to show off and bought an HDMI cable + adapter to DVI. Connected - the screen is black, but working (I can transfer program windows to it from a laptop, but the screen is black and I can't see anything on it)
Question: What could be the problem?

The fact that in the photo usually occurs due to the fault of the cable / connector, less often due to the fault of the cable inside the monitor.
