How to fix a scanner defect?
There is an old, but not so much working Epson Perfection 4490 Photo scanner. It has a defect, which can be seen in the picture here: Scan This is a scanned white sheet. And I do not like the dirty gray blurry border on the top and left. It is clear that you can put the object away from the edge and everything will be fine. But these are just the edges of the reference, and in order to evenly orient the object, it would be necessary to apply it just to them. In general, the problem is not fatal, but annoying.
Actually a question. What is the reason for this band - light, dirt, sensor defect, something else? Maybe someone has come across and recognizes the problem? Well, of course, I would like to eliminate this defect if possible, but how?

These shadows occur when the page is wrinkled or the scanner lid is not pressed firmly against the glass.
If I saw correctly in the photo, the mating part (lid, pressure sheet) is soft, and jams could form on it, which, due to the long time of operation, do not press the sheet for scanning.
Try scanning an empty closed lid - for clarity.
